Patient Education & Guidance

Following these post-operative instructions is essential for optimal healing, minimizing complications, and achieving the best possible surgical results. Detailed post operative instructions will be provided before the surgery.

General Post-Operative Instructions.

A) Facial Care

Wait 24-48 hours before washing face (or as directed)
Use lukewarm water and fragrance-free cleanser
Pat dry gently—do not rub
Keep incisions dry for first week unless instructed otherwise
Apply prescribed medications after cleansing

B) Hair Washing

Wait 48-72 hours post-surgery
Use lukewarm water and gentle movements
Avoid vigorous scalp massage near surgical sites
Consider assistance to minimize strain
Use mild, sulfate-free shampoo

C) Activity Restrictions – Exercise

24-48 hours post-op: Begin light walking
First 2 weeks: Avoid excessive sweating, avoid any pressure (i.e. bending down, lifting luggages) or exercise
6-8 weeks: No sports or risk of facial trauma
Resume activities only when cleared by surgeon

D) Lifestyle Restrictions

Smoking: Prohibited for 8 weeks minimum, the longer the better (including secondhand exposure)
Alcohol: Limit for 6-8 weeks
Saunas, Hot Tubs, Swimming: Avoid for 6-8 weeks

Aftercare FAQ

How is VIP aftercare different from other clinics?

VIP doctors and staff believe that aftercare is just as important as surgery for achieving the best results. To help patients benefit the most from their surgical experience, VIP offers comprehensive post-operative services including daily doctor check-ups, hyperbaric treatments, and all necessary medications and injections, allowing patients to focus solely on their recovery.

The facilities provide exceptional convenience by locating everything in one building, complete with private patient rooms and an exclusive patient lounge staffed by professional chefs. Most importantly, the team’s dedicated care and support creates a truly special experience for each patient, delivering outstanding hospitality throughout the recovery journey.

How long do I have to stay in Jeju?

For minor surgeries (eyelid procedures, fat grafting, genioplasty), patients need 7 days post-operation for immediate recovery and stitch removal. For major surgeries (facelift, rhinoplasty, tummy tuck), a minimum of 10-12 days of post-operative treatment is required for proper healing and stitch removal.

Since patients also need 2 days for pre-operative screening and in-person consultations, VIP recommends a total stay of 10 days for minor surgeries and 2 weeks for major surgeries.

Can I travel alone for my surgeries?

Are there any overnight nursing services?

Following surgery, patients recover in-clinic under close monitoring by nursing staff and attending physicians. After a sufficient recovery period, patients are discharged to their private rooms within the same building. Emergency medical personnel are stationed on-site 24/7 to handle any urgent situations. Additional private caregivers can be arranged upon request for patients who require extra assistance.

Is there any food to avoid before and after the surgery?

Prior to surgery, patients must discontinue any foods or supplements that increase blood circulation, including red ginseng, herbal medicines, and concentrated ginger shots, as these can interfere with the surgical process and healing.

Following surgery, patients should consume nutritious, soft foods that promote healing while minimizing pressure on incision sites. In Korean culture, pumpkin is particularly valued for its anti-inflammatory properties and ability to reduce post-surgical swelling.

How do I recover fast?

Maintaining optimal physical health and a strong immune system is crucial both before and after surgery. A positive mindset plays an important role in the healing process, and gentle walking during recovery helps promote circulation and overall well-being.

Following the immediate recovery period, lymphatic massage is highly recommended for facelift patients to reduce swelling and enhance healing outcomes.

I visited Jeju for a procedure as a solo patient and I am very pleased with the warm hospitality that VIP provides for each of their patients. I was picked up from the airport and dropped to my spacious accommodation. The medical check and consultation was very clear and smooth, Dr. Lee was very sharp and detailed on how the procedure was going to be done. I'm so impressed with VIP Plastic Surgery Korea. Dr. Lee and Dr. Kim took care of me with extensive knowledge and skills. The nurses are amazing. The staff is so helpful and super nice. The food is so healthy. I felt like I was at home. Every day, I had dressings for check-ups with Dr. Lee or Dr. Kim, even on holidays and Saturdays. I got to stay in the oxygen chamber two times a day for the first five days after surgery, and I had a facial every day until the day I left. I loved everything and everyone who works at VIP, especially Joan and Wonny. I would recommend VIP Plastic Surgery Korea to anyone, and I will come back soon.
